HO scale GE P42 locomotive with all-new dual truck motors by Kato. Factory assembled and ready to run on your DC layout. This locomotive release is unique compared to previous HO locomotives from Kato, USA in that it uses a new drive mechanism. The primary feature of the new mechanism is the use of coreless truck-mounted motors, putting all of the locomotive's mechanical components in the trucks.
This makes it easy to lubricate, service, or replace parts while doubling up the available traction power from the heavier weight of the mechanism, made possible by the removal of any internal mechanical components. Features: Perfectly suited to pull Kato's new production of Phase IVb Superliners.Directional headlights and tail lights on both the front and rear of the locomotive, allowing it to operate as both a standard pulling locomotive with double heading capability or a push-pull engine, whether oriented facing forward or back GPS dome on roof serves as rotary switch for different headlight/taillight configurations Illuminated ditch lights Illuminated pre-printed number boards Capable of navigating minimum 370mm (14 3/5") radius curves (R1 radius in Europe) The General Electric P42 locomotive is also known as the "Genesis locomotive. The P42 is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive used across the United States and Canada. Amtrak's P42 has replaced the EMD F40PH in revenue service and today they are used throughout the United States. Since their introduction, they have had a number of physical revisions to improve the ease of maintenance and parts replacements, including a bolt-on fiberglass nose panel (replacing the original's solid metal which was difficult to repair or replace) and a new headlight bezel that is more rounded than the previous square versions.
The Genesis series of locomotives was designed by General Electric in response to a specification published by Amtrak and are unique among current North American diesel-electric locomotives because of their low height. This height restriction allowed the locomotive to travel easily through low-profile tunnels in the Northeast Corridor. The Genesis series is lower than even the previous-generation F40PH by 14 inches (356 mm), and is the only Amtrak diesel locomotive that meets the clearance requirements on every Amtrak route.
A majority of Amtrak's trains are powered by at least one Genesis unit. Note: This locomotive for DC layouts only. The item "KATO 376108 HO Scale P42 Genesis Locomotive Amtrak Phase Vb #91 DC 37-6108 NEW" is in sale since Friday, June 15, 2018.
