Cased Antique WA WEBB LTD London Apothecary Pharmacy Scales 1914

Antique Apothecary Pharmacy Scales Cased in Glass Cabinet. This is a good quality set of silver plated and mahogany balance scales, made by W A Webb, London. The distributors mark is found at the bottom of the scales on a white plaque. Webb was later succeeded by L Oertling, Ltd in 1933. These scales are based on the apothecaries' system of weights which is a historical system of mass units that were used by physicians, chemists and by scientists.

The case itself if made of glass with a wooden frame, the front panel slides up for access to the inside. The base is made from a black opaque glass and is very reflective and beautiful. This is an'equal-arm beam scale'. The stand and measuring stick is made from iron. The scales themselves are made from silver plate pans and the leavers and knobs on the outside are made from brass.

When the levers are realised it allows the pans to rest, reducing the pressure on the knife-edges. All moving part's work as intended.

The measurements go up by 10 MGMS (milligrams) per mark. A plaque at the back reads War Finish, a typical mark for products for miiltary use or for austere times.

The case is on stilts and in very good condition. Base- 14.5 inches (38cms). It weighs 10.5 Kilograms. For condition and further detail, please see images.
